Owner/ Managing Director of Hold Fast Entertainment

Starting Out

Prior to owning any nightclubs and becoming a live music promoter, I was a guitarist in 2 rock bands: First Priority, followed by The Crows.

We managed to get signed to 2 record and publishing companies, MCA and EMI. Through those we toured all over the UK, supporting the likes of:

The Clash, PIL and The Damned

I opened the very first but short lived Cathouse Rock Club in Bathgate. Since then, I have been heavily involved in numerous clubs, bars and restaurants. The most notable being the hugely successful

Cathouse Rock Club and The Garage.

Twenty-eight years later, the Catty and The Garage are still thriving and going from strength to strength.

Live Music Promoter

As live music venues, both clubs have hosted thousands of gigs including:

Prince, Coldplay, Anthrax, Pretenders, One Direction, FLC, QOTSA, Ocean Colour Scene and EODM.

The clubs each still feature prominently in the global live music circuit.

As a recognised promoter with CPL, and now Triple G, I have been personally involved with hundreds of acts and some of the world’s biggest names, including:

Oasis, Fall Out Boy, PANIC! At The Disco, Black Stone Cherry, Rob Zombie, Rammstein and Marilyn Manson.

Nordoff Robbins

I have passionately devoted an inordinate amount of my time and energy to charities and good causes.

In particular, Nordoff Robbins Scotland

Which I have been very proud to have led and been part of for the past 20 years.

During this time, the charity has raised millions of pounds for the provision of music therapy in Scotland.

Our high profile fundraising events include:

The SSE Scottish Music Awards, NRS Scottish Sports Awards, and our very popular Rock and Roll Golf Days.

Awards

Over the years, Hold Fast Entertainment (formerly CPL) has won multiple awards from the Scottish License Trade News (SLTN) Awards and Dram. We have won awards each consecutive year from 2001-2005.

In 2015, I was humbled to win the SLTN UK Industry Achievement Awards in recognition for my service to Scotland’s license industry.

This year started with a bang as I was awarded a prestigious Barrowland Hall of Fame 2019 alongside my good friends, the Fun Lovin’ Criminals at their fantastic Barrowland Ballroom gig!

Extra Curricular

Always a loud and proud Macleod, I am never one to shy away from important issues that need addressed, Especially with regards to licensing policy and the promotion of the night time economy.

I have been a columnist for The Mirror, The Sun, and for the past 6 years, the resurgent Sunday Post
